White wallpaper remains a popular wall covering choice for a reason; it goes well with any decor and is easy to embellish tastefully. However, there are a lot of ways to retain these great qualities while giving any room a more individualized spin. More and more wallpaper designers are offering patterned white wallpapers that will make any room look more fresh and modern. No matter what size the room is or what your personal style, black and white wallpapers are chic, modern way to cover your walls.

Styles of black & white wallpaper vary wildly. Striped and checker board options are popular choices that work well in large and small rooms alike. They will add a noir-ish quality to even the drabbest space. The larger and more bold the print, the more pronounced this effect will be.

If you will be using one of these styles, remember to keep the rest of the decorative touches in the room to a minimum. It is best to stick with solid colored window treatments and avoid introducing too many more patterns to this look.

In addition to these geometrical styles, white wallpaper that features an intricate pattern, whether in black or colors, is a bold choice that your neighbors will covet. When you are considering patterned wallpaper, it is important to consider the size of the room.  Smaller rooms often do better with large patterns, while large rooms will feel more cozy when papered with tight paisley designs. For a more sedated look, consider confining this paper to just one part of the room, be it one wall or just an alcove. This way, you will not need to completely commit to this bold, styling decision.

Patterned styles are also available in wallpaper trims or borders.  Adding these to a room is far less time consuming and tends to be far less expensive. These trims may be added to walls that are already papered, or may be used with painted walls. If your paint or existing paper is beginning to show signs of age, it may be best to repaint before adding the trim. Walls without trim are much easier to paint and it will make the whole room look fresh and new.

Embellished white wallpaper is a great choice for the home decorator who is looking for something a bit different. If you cannot find a pattern that you like, making your own is fun and easy with stencil kits and sponges.

Hanging white wallpaper is also a great solution for a wall that is not structurally perfect, because it will hide the flasx.
